iPod, the single name that revolutionized personal music is on board with the next iteration of iPod touch. Yes you got it right, the apple iPod latest model; As the company says the all new iPod touch 5^th generation aka iPod touch 5g is “Engineered to provide you maximum funness”.  iPods aren’t just iPods anymore. It’s actually an iPhone minus a SIM. If an iPhone disturbs your monthly budget quite a lot, iPods are the way to go. But to what extend an iPod touch 5 can alleviate your sorrow of not having an iPhone? Well, I can only say scroll down.

The new iPod 5 touch has gotten slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. I don’t know what diet it followed, but the end product is awesome to say the least. The ultra thin body feels great to handle.

You have six colors to choose from for the back cover made of aluminium and must stick to what you chose. It’s nice and flat. As smaller hands deals with iPods than iPhones, a cool and matching wrist strap is attached to the rear side which can prevent accidental drops.

Having said all these, the slightly propped up camera and black plastic strips looks untidy.

The front side looks almost like an iPhone 5 albeit having a shallower home button.

The overall design and build quality gives a razor sharp look.

The real estate has been improved, thanks to the 4 inch retina display. Watching movies have gotten better than ever as there is no letter boxing. Colors are rich and texts look crisper. The aspect ratio is now 16:9 means it’s wider. Gamers have a lot to be happy about as the wider screen performs better especially in landscape mode.

The resolution is pretty much the same as our iPhone 5 with 1136×640 pixels and 326ppi.

Wide angle performance has been improved so did the saturation.

But the display cannot quite keep up with the iPhone 5 as the iPhone is brighter and there is no automatic brightness setting.

The camera is still 5 MP as in iPod 4^th Gen but now its iSight Camera with improved lens that can capture images good enough for social networking sites. That’s it. Poor low light performance even with LED flash.

The videos are of good quality with 1080p HD and are close enough to the iPhone 5 videos.

Autofocus, touch to focus, face detection panorama mode etc are good additions.

The Facetime camera or the front facing camera can handle face time video calls but gives a mediocre self portrait.

Every iPod touch iteration is a step lower to the iPhone of the same iteration in terms of processor. As iPhone 5 has A6 processor, iPod 5^th Gen takes up the A5. But it won’t count as a big loss because most apps and games in the app store gives a good performance even though it takes a wee bit more time to load than the iPhone 5.

The preinstalled iOS 6 has almost everything an iPhone 5 has like FacebookFacebook twitter integration, panorama in camera, maps with 3D flyover and even Siri.

Battery life is satisfying with up to 4 hours non-stop music playback and up to 8hrs video playback.

 

The iPod touch 5g connectors are the basic 3.5mm jack and the lightning connector. The latter can be connected to the cable with any side up.

The earpods sticks well to your ears than the round ear buds seen before. But sadly it lacks audio control buttons and means that you can’t pause and play, can’t activate Siri as on iPhone 5. Apple should have done better in this department.

As you know, you can download games and apps from the app store. The game center, a social gaming hub gives around the world gaming experience where you can challenge your friends for the bragging rights on leader boards.

Without music, the iPod isn’t an iPod. You can download as many as you like from the iTunes.

It’s the best  iPod yet. A good prospect if you don’t have a phone which can do what an iPod 5 can. But the price range is a bit high and there is no 16GB variant as an entry level. A must buy if you are eager to enter the apple world without spending too much.
