Nexus 7 Officially Available In India Via Google Play Store For Rs. 15,999
Google Inc. began selling its Nexus 7 tablet in India Tuesday. The 7-inch tablet, Nexus 7, has been listed on the India Google Play Store for Rs 15,999 and will ship by April 5, 2013.
The launch of the Nexus 7, which is competing with Apple Inc.’s iPad, comes at a time when demand for such devices in India is on the rise.
India’s tablet computer market is still nascent compared with other parts of the world but is growing, with telecommunication companies rolling out high-speed Internet networks using third-generation and fourth-generation communication technology.
The seven-inch Nexus 7 runs on Google’s latest Android Jelly Bean software and comes with a storage capacity of 16 gigabytes.
The tablet is powered by NVIDIA Corp.’s Tegra 3 T30L Quad-Core 1.3Ghz processor and can be connected to the Internet through both wireless and high-speed telecommunication networks.
Asus, too, launched a 16GB Wi-Fi variant in India in November last year. But it was expensive, at Rs 19,999. Also, the neat pricing of the Nexus 7 is likely to give competition to the Apple iPad Mini, which is available for Rs 21,900.
Until now, Google has not been selling its hardware in India but this development follows the recent visit of Google Chairman Eric Schmidt to India, where he promised that Google will soon start selling Nexus hardware in the Indian market.
