Samsung challenged every competitor out there with their Galaxy Note. While the rivals were still trying to figure out what had happened, the Note 2 hit the market which was the killer blow. Then, everybody had a mountain to climb .LG took this challenge with aplomb and their response was in the form of LG Optimus G Pro. Breaking the 5.5 inch barrier and showing up with a phablet, can LG take the podium? Let’s find out.
LG Optimus G Pro Design
Of course it is big. But with all that the G Pro can offer you may be ready to sew a bigger pocket. The all-glass front side is worth a look. The edges are curved and the screen glass is beveled which enables easier handling. The screen is ultra thin and buttons on the sides are well integrated. The home button can also be used to wake up the phone.
There is an IR remote on the top and by using this IR blaster, the Optimus G Pro turns into a universal remote for your home entertainment system.
The back cover is dominated by plastic which is glossy and has a fresh pattern. Overall the design and build quality is excellent and gives a premium feel.
LG Optimus G Pro Screen and display
LG offers a large playground with their 5.5 inch display. The True Full HD IPS Plus LCD capacitive touchscreen is second to none. This screen can beat AMOLEDs on any day as they give more natural colors.
As the screen is reflective, a little contrast is lost when viewed at an angle. The performance under sunlight is not up to the mark.
LG Optimus G Pro OS and UI
The first LG device that runs on android 4.1.2 jelly bean is the all new LG Optimus G Pro, skinned by the Optimus UI. Like every other manufacturers, LG has also some software tweaks. Up to five shortcuts can be brought to the lock screen that takes you directly to the app. Moving past the lock screen, there is the typical android home screen.
Multitasking is taken to the next level with the Qslide feature with which we can watch a clip while using an app.
A wise screen feature is there which keeps the phone from being auto locked using the front camera. In short, the OS and the UI looks more than decent with a good collection of themes. A new software update started rolling out to add new groundbreaking features to this phone.
LG Optimus G Pro Processor and RAM
Optimus G Pro boasts a lighting fast processor in the form of Quad-core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 which handles multitasking with ease. The computational power has a major say in enhancing the reputation of the Optimus G Pro with the Qualcomm snapdragon 600 processor.
Talking about GPU, we have the adreno 320 variant which is all too familiar. You can open as many apps you like with the 2GB Ram and the internal memory offers more than enough space with a whopping 32GB, which can be further enhanced by adding a micro SD which can go up to 64 GB.
LG Optimus G Pro Camera
The rear camera has a sensor of 13 MP which can have a maximum resolution of 4208 x 3120 for still photos and videos at 1080p at 30fps. The front facing camera is 2.1 MP which can handle video chats.
A cool feature added to the camera is the ‘time machine camera’ which keeps on taking snaps before and after you actually click it so that we can have the best one. Another feature is the VR panorama, similar to Google’s Photo Sphere mode.
LG Optimus G Pro Battery
Fuelled by a Li-Po 3140 mAh battery, the Optimus G Pro is expected to have a longer life, but the high resolution takes away the juice faster. Nevertheless it has an endurance time up to 50 hrs. The talktime can reach up to 20 hrs.
Wrap-up
The timing from LG couldn’t have been better because the note 2 has hit the shelves early and note 3 won’t be seen for a bit of time. With a series of advanced technology than the rival, LG must have brought something more to the table. But it’s definitely a ‘check’ for Samsung and the next move is theirs.
